The Debian Project is an association of individuals who have made common cause to create a free operating system. This operating system that we have created is called Debian. An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities that make your computer run. At the core of an operating system is the kernel. The kernel is the most fundamental program on the computer and does all the basic housekeeping and lets you start other programs.

Debian is a free OS that was created through The Debian Project. A group of people came together for the common purpose of creating an operating system that anybody and everybody would be free to use. Many of this system's basic tool are made up of tools from the GNU project which explains many of the names; such as GNU/Linux, GNU/kFreeBSD, GNU/Hurd, etc.
Debian OS comes with 51,000 packages which can be managed through package manager (APT) as well as a number of other utilities. These tools make it possible for you to manage a huge number of packages on a large number of different machines, which is made as easy as just installing a single application. Installation is simple and if you wish you can even have a Broadberry engineer complete the full installation for you.
As it is open source, Debian is a free storage software solution. In addition to initially being free, there are no hidden charges that you need to worry about if you choose to configure your CyberStore storage appliance with Debian OS.
The community around Debian is strong. The software is maintained by its large base of users and developers. Should any issue arise, it is usually handled very swiftly due to the collective power of the Debian community.
Should you need support for any issue or problem, you can call on the aforementioned community to come to your aid and by utilising online communities, your issues can be resolved very quickly.
The community pools their knowledge and experience together to increase the Debian experience for everyone. There is an active bug tracking system, which anyone can report bugs to. Once a bug has been identified, you can usually expect it to be dealt within a few days at the most.
When compared with alternative solutions on the market, Debian is high performing across the board. Lightweight and efficient, Debian is a great choice if you are looking for a fast OS that gets things done quick. Being based on either GNU/Linux or GNU/FreeBSD gives Debian a head start in the speed department so when installed on our range of enterprise-grade storage servers you'll have a blazing-fast storage appliance.
Security is taken very seriously by Debian. They are very responsive to any security issues and work to get them solved as soon as possible, with fixes being uploaded within a few days of the issue being brought up. Security is even more efficient when you consider the huge online community that uses Debian every day. Whenever a problem pops up, the combined efforts of the developers and community is enough to snuff out any danger in an impressive amount of time.
Issues with security are picked up a lot earlier with this solution than with many other operating systems because Debian's source code is freely available. When the source code can be examined openly be anybody, it creates a situation where poor quality security models are prevented. Unlike with many paid software where the source code is not so available and there are a lot less eyes on them which allows poor design to slip through.
Debian encourages users to send bug reports, which are added to their publicly available bug tracking system. This system helps Debian quickly and efficiently deal with any security bugs or issues that arise.
One of the strongest points of Debian is its great stability and consistency. The release policy of the creators behind Debian is to only release updates once they have ironed out all the bugs, thoroughly tested everything and otherwise ensured that there will be no issues.
While other operating systems tend to occasionally crash or have issues, Debian is remarkably consistent and stable. There are times where a machine running Debian can be running for more than a year without having to be rebooted.
It is maintained by its users.

Combining amazing performance with low pricing, Broadberry CyberStore storage servers are just what your business needs to reach the next level.
Broadberry storage servers are never vendor locked, meaning they retain compatibility with third party hardware. This lack of a common limiting obstacle allows you the freedom to equip your server with your chosen complementary pieces.
CyberStore storage appliances are compatible with all major server software. You also get the freedom of choosing between a wide range of operating systems. and all you will ever need is one box to run every single major storage software available.
Broadberry has delivered three decades of excellence in this industry and received a number of awards and achievements. for our service. In recent years we have worked with some of the largest organisations on the planet, including Virgin, Sky, ITV, Toyota, NASA, Disney and the BBC.
The Broadberry CyberStore range of enterprise-grade storage servers are designed and built for a wide-range of storage applications.
Completely customisable from processing to storage type and capacity, to operating system - the CyberStore range is your go-to storage platform.
The CyberStore range of storage servers are used by the world's largest organisations from the BBC, to the CERN project, governement institutions, universities and much more.
Year-after-year, the Broadberry CyberStore range of unified storage appliances has beaten the likes of Dell and HPE to be crowned "Best Storage Appliance" by PC Pro magazine.
When compared to the likes of DELL, HPE, EMC etc, the Broadberry CyberStore range of enterprise-grade unified storage appliances is up to 60% cheaper, although using the same quality components such as Seagate drives and Kingston RAM.
The Bradberry CyberStore range has been built from industry-leading commodity hardware, and carefully designed to ensuure full compatibility with leading storage operating systems and database engines.
Broadberry enterprise storage appliances are on average 86% lower cost than EMC and 55% lower cost than DELL although built using the same leading-brand server components such as Intel processors and Samsung memory. HPE hard drives are rebadged Toshiba enterprise-class drives, the exact same models as found in Broadberry storage appliances.
When you buy a Broadberry storage appliance all drive bays are supplied with caddies - so if in 6 months time you decide to expand the storage you can source it freely from the marketplace or ourselves if you wish. The only way to add hard drives to HPE servers is to buy the drives along with caddies from HPE for 200% the price of Broadberry's price.
Broadberry storage appliances come with enterprise-grade features like IPMI included, whereas HPE charge large fees for perpetual licences for the same features.
Our website allows you to configure your server online with accurate prices, as opposed to NetApp who require several face-to-face meetings with them before they'll give you a price.
Over recent years there's been a massive move from the world's largest organisations such as Google to purchase their servers from the likes of Broadberry rather than DELL and HPE. This move is fuelled by the rise in commodity hardware.
Before leaving our UK workshop, all Broadberry server and storage solutions undergo a rigorous 48 hour testing procedure. This, along with the high-quality industry leading components ensures all of our server and storage solutions meet the strictest quality guidelines demanded from us.
